ReadyTech powers Tasmanian Department of Justice’s first online legal portal

The Tasmanian Department of Justice has launched a new online services portal that will allow Tasmanians to interact with the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (TASCAT) across its Divisions and Tribunal Streams.

The portal is powered by ReadyTech’s Ready Case solution, a modern and scalable software for case management and online customer service, built specifically for the justice sector, and was implemented in less than six months.

The portal, which is now live, will allow authorised persons under the Guardianship and Administration Act 1995 to search and access any registered Advance Care Directive (ACD) that is registered with TASCAT. This provides an enhanced health care service for Tasmanians without manual search processes.

The ACD Register is phase 1 of a planned project to expand online search capability across the tribunal, stream by stream, with searches of the Enduring Guardianship Register and Resource and Planning Stream Plants Disputes Register slated to go live in the next few months.

The complete Ready Case-powered portal is the foundation for a single point of access to Tribunal services. It will allow users to lodge and manage applications and supporting documents online, perform case discovery, pay fees, receive notifications and correspondence relating to matters and hearings and provide a secure mechanism for tribunal members to access hearing papers from a central location.

"Our partnership with ReadyTech has enabled us to deliver this new online services portal, which will allow Tasmanians to interact with TASCAT across its Divisions and Tribunal Streams now and into the future,” said Jarrod Bryan Principal Registrar of TASCAT.

“The Tasmanian Government, in establishing the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, passed into legislation objectives under Section 10 of the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal Act 2020, that the Tribunal must meet in conducting its operations. As the first online legal services portal in Tasmania, this is a project that significantly furthers those objectives by providing accessible services for the community.

“The launch of this first stage is of particular importance for accessing advance care directives registered with the Tribunal to support quality health care for people when they need it by health professionals.

“We're looking forward to a continued partnership with ReadyTech, as we expand and enhance the online services available via the portal," Bryan added.

ReadyTech’s Chief Executive of Government and Justice, Daniel Wyner said the portal would deliver improved access to justice for the Tasmanian community.

“We were excited to partner with the Department of Justice to underpin this important project, and work together to configure, implement and go live with phase 1 in just four months,” Wyner said.

“Our Ready Case solution was the perfect fit, offering a highly configurable and extendable platform that is designed to support the unique needs of the sector.”

TASCAT, along with the Courts and Department of Justice, is part of a growing number of ReadyTech government & justice segment customers in Tasmania, including George Town Council, Glenorchy City Council, City of Hobart and Derwent Valley Council.

Tasmania is a growth area for the wider ReadyTech group, which is developing a Centre of Excellence from its office in Launceston. The company has invested in developing a local hub of technology capabilities in software engineering, data science, product management and customer support.
