Meet the Team - Steve Tilden

What is your role at IT Vision and how long have you been at ITV?

I have been a part of the IT Vision team since 2006 and have had the opportunity to take on various roles within the development department. Over the years, I have gained valuable experience in different areas of the company's operations, which has helped me grow both personally and professionally. Currently, I hold the position of Research & Development Manager, where I can apply my skills and knowledge to drive innovation and growth for the company.

What does a day in your role look like?

The integration of IT Vision into the ReadyTech family has brought about exciting opportunities to consolidate and streamline the products available within the group. I am currently overseeing a number of significant projects that we have won in 2023.

My role involves a variety of tasks, including conducting workshops, both internally and with external stakeholders, meeting with clients and partners, occasional travel to visit ReadyTech partners and customers, and collating requirements into usable formats for different teams. I also facilitate the transition of these requirements into development activities across the group while ensuring that project timelines are supported as needed.

Although the task of integrating over 30 systems for a project may sound complex, our approach is to break it down into manageable pieces and work through each piece systematically. Once all the pieces are solved, we put them back together to create a comprehensive solution.

What makes my role as a Research & Development Manager so exciting is the opportunity to work with an amazing and diverse group of people who bring their unique skills and perspectives to the table. I love collaborating with my team and clients to identify the best solutions for their needs, and then seeing those solutions come to life.

One of the best things about my role is that no two days are the same. There's always a new challenge to tackle, a new solution to create, and a new opportunity to learn and grow. It's an exciting and dynamic role, and I feel lucky to be a part of such an innovative and forward-thinking company like IT Vision.

What is your professional/academic background?

My passion for technology began back in 1982 when my parents gifted me a BBC microcomputer. This led to me spending six months outside of class teaching my peers how to use one. Following a couple of early false starts, I made the decision to return to education at age 24 and pursue a career in the IT sector. After working for a large multinational company for 13 years, my wife and I decided to try something new and moved to Australia. It was there that I had the opportunity to join IT Vision in 2006 and have been a part of the team ever since. With my passion for technology and years of experience in the industry, I am excited to continue contributing to the growth and success of the company.

What do you do in your spare time?

Outside of spending time with my family, I have a few hobbies that keep me busy. I am an avid pilot and have been flying since 2009. I currently own an aircraft and try to fly it as often as possible. Additionally, I am building a two-seater aerobatic airplane at home, which I plan to use for touring Australia and getting my adrenalin fix once it is complete.

In addition to my passion for flying real aircraft, my 10-year-old son and I share a love for drone racing and model aircraft. We enjoy scratch building FPV drones at home and racing them through a series of tight gates at speeds of up to 150km/h. It's an exhilarating experience, as we feel as though we are sitting inside the drone due to the goggles we use for viewing.

Do you play any sports/musical instruments or have any pets?

I'm an active member of a shooting club and currently compete in three different target disciplines long range rifle, Clay Pidgeon, and Field Pistol.

We have a dog who we all love to walk, and I also love cycling. That does not leave much time for anything else unfortunately.

What are you looking forward to in 2023, either at work or in your personal life?

I am incredibly excited about what 2023 holds, both in my personal life and here at IT Vision. The integration of IT Vision into the ReadyTech family is a major milestone, and I look forward to seeing how this partnership will continue to bring about positive change and growth for the company.

Additionally, we have some significant projects in the pipeline, and it's a fantastic time to be a part of the team. There's a sense of optimism and opportunity in the air, and I am thrilled to be a part of it all. This year is shaping up to be one of the most significant and transformative periods in my time at IT Vision, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds.

Any extra fun facts about you or comments about working at IT Vision?

Firstly, you may be surprised to learn that despite being a pilot, I have a fear of heights and often feel nauseous when near any drop over two meters.

Lastly, I had an interesting realisation today when I learned that one of our team members was born in the same year that I started at IT Vision. It's a reminder of how quickly time passes, and it's amazing to think that for their entire life, I've been going up and down the same lift at the company. Time certainly flies! (Pun intended)
